What makes Luffy a great captain despite his flaws?

Luffy is one of the most none conventional Captain of the One Piece world.

We have seen Pirate captain so angry and scary all the time. If you just for once forget about Luffy and think of Pirate Captain you might have imagined such face.

Or something Lookalike. Macho, scary and badass look, definitely not Luffy.

Pirate Captain keeps control of there crew take decisions and keep the bit portion of the loot for themselves.

Now let's talk about Luffy.

Some reasons make him Great Captain:

• His Love for his Crew:

He is the silliest and dumb ass captain found in the history of Pirate’s Captains.

He gets beaten by his crew members on the ship very often. He is on the payroll of Nami. He has fixed allowance given to him and him never able to manage that. He jokes around and makes fun of other group members never plane for anything and the most unorganized person ever.

Now Question arises why his crew members still around him?

Monsters like Zoro, Sanji, and whole straw Hats fleet consist of giant, Minks, and people from different background obey him?

The biggest difference between Luffy and conventional Pirate is that Luffy doesn't make them follow on a threat but they follow Luffy for his abilities, his dedication and his love for his crew members.

Throughout the series no matter what happens he left no one behind and take everyone with him.

Many time his life get on stake and he doesn't care.

He was willing to take the fight with World government, Arlong, Big mom without any hesitation and any regards for there ranks and power.

He saved everyone’s life at one point or another. Gave them motivation and inspiration to work toward there goal.

Love is not a one-way road so his crew members love him more than their lives.

Someone like Zoro who never let anyone come between his goal was willing to give his life for Luffy.

During time skip everyone wanna become strong so they can support Luffy and don't just live there life as a burden.

Many fans suggest that crew members might leave to achieve their own goal as Luffy won't restrict them because of that reason. Zoro will leave if he thinks Luffy is a hurdle in his way. This can be true as Zoro Repeatedly said this but I think Zoro will not do this.

When he was willing to die for Luffy he wouldn't hesitate to quit his dream.

• Luffy’s Dream:

Why is it necessary to have a big dream and what it has to be with being a great captain?

The answer is simple when a captain is a person with a big dream ambition he strives his crew to become good too.

Luffy becomes an inspiration for Usoop to start his journey and move toward his goal.

Luffy shows Chopper what a great pirate is and motivate him to join his crew.

Pre time skip Luffy carry the burden of his weak crew members and save them but during time they all get the motivation to become strong crew members.

They all are very devoted and ambitious to help Luffy to become the Pirate King.

All of his crew members joined him just because of that dream and ambition which they know will make him a great pirate.
